Melinda Lopez

Melinda Lopez is a playwright and actress. Her play, Sonia Flew, won Elliot Norton and IRNE Awards (Calderwood Pavilion). Other plays include Becoming Cuba (Huntington Theatre/North Coast Repertory), Gary (Steppenwolf/Boston Playwrights Theatre), Alexandros (Laguna Playhouse), Caroline in Jersey (Williamstown Theatre), Midnight Sandwich/Medianoche and her Elliot Norton Award-winning plays God Smells like a Roast Pig (Coconut Grove Playhouse) and Orchids to Octopi (Underground Railroad Theater).

As an actress, Lopez has appeared as Mrs. Gibbs in Our Town, Demeter in Persephone, and Lizaveta Bogdanovna in A Month in the Country (Huntington Theatre), Amy in The Oil Thief (Boston Playwrights' Theatre), Hippolyta/Others in A Midsummer Night's Dream, Elicia/Others in The Illusion, and Mrs. Cratchit in A Christmas Carol (Merrimack Repertory), and Antoinette "Toni" Lafayette in appropriate and Victoria in The Motherf**ker with the Hat, winning the Elliot Norton Award for Best Supporting Actress (SpeakEasy Stage).
