Madelyn Pugh

Madelyn Pugh (also credited as Madelyn Pugh Martin and Madelyn Pugh Davis) was a radio and television writer, best known for her work on the TV series I Love Lucy, which she and her professional partner, Bob Carroll, Jr., wrote together with head writer Jess Oppenheimer and co-writers Bob Schiller and Bob Weiskopf. Pugh and her co-writers received two Emmy nominations for I Love Lucy. 

Her career started as a radio writer, first for NBC and then CBS, where she met Bob Carroll, Jr. Pugh credits some of her breakthrough as "the girl writer" to the war effort, which limited the pool of qualified male writers. Early in her career she was frequently the only female writer on staff.

Pugh and Carroll also wrote episodes of Lucille Ball's subsequent series, The Lucy-Desi Comedy HourThe Lucy ShowHere's Lucy, and Life With Lucy. They created the television series The Mothers-in-Law and served as executive producers for the hit series Alice, for which they won a Golden Globe. 

Pugh published her memoirs, titled Laughing with Lucy, written with Bob Carroll, Jr. The pair won the Writers' Guild of America Paddy Chayefsky Laurel Award for Television Achievement.
