Israel Horovitz

Israel Horovitz is an American playwright, screenwriter, and director. He has written over 70 plays, several of which have been translated into as many as 30 languages and performed worldwide. He is the most-produced American playwright in French theatre history.

Among Horovitz's best-known plays are Line, a revival of which is New York City's longest-running play, now in its 40th year of continuous performance (13th Street Repertory Theatre), Out of the Mouths of Babes (Westport Country Playhouse), Park Your Car in Harvard Yard and The Widow's Blind Date (Los Angeles Actors Theatre), What Strong Fences Make (Theater for the New City), and his OBIE Award-winning The Indian Wants the Bronx (Center Stage).

His screenplays include Author! Author!, and his European Academy Award-winning Sunshine, James Dean, 3 Weeks After Paradise, and The Strawberry Statement. Horovitz also adapted and directed his stage-play, My Old Lady, for the screen.
