Terry Johnson is a writer and director. He won a Tony Award for Best Director of a Musical for La Cage aux Folles, two Olivier Awards for Best Comedy and Playwright of the Year, Critics Circle Award for Best New Play, two Evening Standard Theatre Awards, two Writers Guild Awards, a Mayer-Whitworth Award, and a John Whiting Award.
Johnson's West End productions as director and writer include One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (Garrick Theatre), Way Upstream (National Theatre), The Graduate (Gielgud Theatre), Entertaining Mr. Sloane (Arts Theatre), Dumb Show, Piano/Forte, and Insignificance (Royal Court Theatre); Hitchcock Blonde (Jerwood Theatre); and regionally, The Libertine and Lost Land (Steppenwolf Theatre).
Johnson has also written and directed television dramas that have been broadcast worldwide, including ITV’s 99-1 and the BBC miniseries The Bite.
