Nathaniel Hawthorne

Nathaniel Hawthorne was an American novelist and short story writer. Much of Hawthorne's writing centers on New England, many works featuring moral allegories with a Puritan inspiration. His fiction works are considered part of the Romantic movement and, more specifically, dark romanticism. His themes often center on the inherent evil and sin of humanity, and his works often have moral messages and deep psychological complexity.

Broadway works include The Scarlet Letter (Daly’s Theatre) and Three Wonder Tales (Garden Theatre). Regionally produced works include The House of the Seven Gables (New Theatre) and Young Goodman Brown (La Mama Theatre).

Other written works include Twice-Told Tales, Grandfather's Chair, Mosses from an Old Manse, The Scarlet Letter, A Wonder-Book for Girls and Boys, The Snow-Image, and Other Twice-Told Tales, Tanglewood Tales, The Dolliver Romance and Other Pieces, and The Great Stone Face and Other Tales of the White Mountains.
