Waris Hussein

Waris Hussein was born in Lucknow, India and lives in London and Los Angeles. A Cambridge graduate, he trained as a Drama Director with BBC TV. He was the first director of the Dr. Who series and worked extensively on major productions including The Glittering Prizes and Edward and Mrs. Simpson, which won both BAFTA and Emmy awards. In the U.S., he has directed many Movies of the Week including Little Gloria …Happy at Last with Bette Davis and Angela Lansbury, and Barry Manilow’s Copacabana, which won an Emmy for Best Musical. His feature films include A Touch of Love with Sandy Dennis and Ian McKellen; Melody; Henry VIII and his Six Wives; The Possession of Joel Delany with Shirley MacLaine; The Summerhouse with Jeanne Moreau, Joan Plowright and Julie Walters; and Firdaus Kanga’s Sixth Happiness. In the theatre, Mr. Hussein has directed John Gielgud in Half Life at the National Theatre and Alec McCowen in Christopher Isherwood’s A Single Man at the Greenwich Theatre.
