Richard Chamberlain is is an American stage and screen actor and singer, who became a teen idol in the title role on NBC's Dr. Kildare. He is well-known for television miniseries, including Ralph de Bricassart in ABC's The Thorn Birds, Pilot-Major John Blackthorne in NBC's Shogunand Alexander McKeag in NBC's Centennial.
Theatre credits include his Broadway debut as Reverend T. Lawrence Shannon in The Night of the Iguana (Circle in the Square Theatre); Captain Georg von Trapp in The Sound of Music (Martin Beck Theatre); Henry Higgins in My Fair Lady (Virginia Theatre); and Charles in Blithe Spirit (Neil Simon Theatre). Off-Broadway, as Father Donald in Sticks and Stones (Romulus Linney Courtyard); and in Fathers and Sons (Public Theater). Regionally, as Father Merrin in The Exorcist (Geffen Playhouse); Dr. Austin Sloper in The Heiress (Pasadena Playhouse); and King Arthur in the First National Tour of Spamalot (Colonial/Cadillac Palace Theatre).
