Ed Shea

Ed Shea boasts a varied and extensive professional resume. Long before his twelve-year residency at Trinity Rep, and years before his tenure on the faculty of Trinity Conservatory, Shea was at the vanguard of Rhode Island's "Off-Trinity" theater scene. Ed co-founded the legendary 2nd Story Theater with associate Pat Hegnauer in 1978. Since then, he has gone on to produce and/or direct well over 150 area productions at venues including Rhode Island Shakespeare Theater and Brown University's New Play Festival. Under Shea’s artistic direction, 2nd Story has had unprecedented growth and development. Beginning with the acclaimed Short Attention Span Theatre one-act play festival, the theatre now produces a yearly subscription series and a summer mini-series. Ed also conducts master classes in acting at the studio. In 2003 the Theatre became a permanent cultural resource for Rhode Island’s East Bay through the purchase of its home on Market Street in Warren.
