Christopher Hart

Christopher Hart (Director) is pleased to be back at L.A. Theatre Works, having previously directed Once in a Lifetime. He adapted that first collaboration between Kaufman and Hart for LATW seven years ago and it was given a successful full production this past fall and winter at The Young Vic Theater in London. As a producer he's won two Tony Awards for the revival of Hair, and the Audra Macdonald revival of Gershwin's Porgy and Bess. For television he produced the NBC series based on You Can't Take It With You, also by Kaufman and Hart, and he's currently working on developing a new musical based on a 'lost' ballet by Cole Porter and Gerald Murphy. He is also adapting another K and H hit play, Merrily We Roll Along, which has had an illustrious career masquerading as a Steven Sondheim musical of the same name. Merrily, the play, which is told backwards, will be seen this summer at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Before moving back to New York, he was an award winning theater director in LA, as the artistic director of The Malibu Stage Company and worked at The Geffen Theater and West Coast Ensemble.
