Budd Schulberg was an American screenwriter, television producer, novelist, and sports writer, best known for writing some of the most famous lines in the history of the movies. Film screenplay credits include A Dream Last Night, Nuremberg, Tales from the Hollywood Hills: A Table at Ciro's, Rozcarování, A Question of Honor, Wind Across the Everglades, A Face in the Crowd, The Harder They Fall, The Nazi Plan, Five Were Chosen, Government Girl, City Without Men, Cinco fueron escogidos, Weekend for Three, Winter Carnival, Little Orphan Annie, and his Academy Award-winning On the Waterfront.

Broadway works include his debut play The Disenchanted, which was based on his novel of the same name (Coronet Theatre), On the Waterfront (Brooks Atkinson Theatre), and What Makes Sammy Run?, based on his novel of the same name (54th Street Theatre).
