David Hare

Sir David Hare is an English playwright, screenwriter, and theatre and film director. Most notable for his stage work, Hare has also enjoyed great success with films, receiving two Academy Award nominations for Best Adapted Screenplay for writing The Hours, based on the novel written by Michael Cunningham, and The Reader, based on the novel of the same name written by Bernhard Schlink. He also wrote the screenplay for the film, Wetherby.

He had his greatest success with his Broadway debut Plenty, which he adapted into a film (Plymouth Theatre).

Other Broadway successes include The Year of Magical Thinking and Via Dolorosa (Booth Theatre), The Vertical Hour (Music Box Theatre), Amy's View and The Secret Rapture (Ethel Barrymore Theatre), The Blue Room (Cort Theatre), The Judas Kiss (Broadhurst Theatre), Ivanov and Racing Demon (Vivian Beaumont Theatre), and Skylight (Royale Theatre).
