Lorraine Hansberry was an American playwright and writer. She was the first black woman to write a play performed on Broadway. Her Broadway works include A Raisin in the Sun (Ethel Barrymore/Belasco Theatres), The Sign in Sidney Brustein's Window (Longacre/Henry Miller’s Theatres), Les Blancs (Longacre Theatre), and Raisin (46th Street/Lunt-Fontanne Theatres). Off-Broadway works include To Be Young Gifted and Black (Cherry Lane Theatre) and What Use Are Flowers? (Chernin Center).
