Barbara Isenberg is an Award-winning journalist and author who has been writing and lecturing about arts issues and personalities for more than three decades. A long-time theatre writer, she is the author of Making It Big: The Diary of a Broadway Musical, State of the Arts: California Artists Talk About Their Work, and Conversations with Frank Gehry.
Reporting from Los Angeles, New York, and London, she was the Los Angeles Times' Chief Arts writer, where she continues to be a freelance contributor. A former staff reporter for the Wall Street Journal, she has also published articles in such publications as TIME, Esquire, Huffington Post, Talk, The Nation, Ms. and London’s Sunday Times.
Founder and host of the Getty Center's Art Matters public interviews, she also created the Skirball Cultural Center’s Spotlight interview series, UCLA Extension’s Evenings Out with the Critics program, and British Theater Backstage with Barbara Isenberg.
